R1234yf for car AC-systems
R1234yf refrigerant is applied for example in car air conditioning (AC) systems. It has displaced previous R134A refrigerant because of its’ low environmental impact and good thermodynamic performance.
R1234yf refrigerant was created to match EU directives
R1234yf was created to match EU directive 2006/40/EC: according to the directive, a vehicle that has passed the type agreement during the year 2011 or later – or has been put to use during the year 2017 or later, has to use refrigerant which GWP value is under 150.
Maintenance cycle with cars that use R1234yf do not change (recommended cycle is 2 years).
It is estimated, that in the future there still are more cars that run with R134A than cars that use R1234yf: when the new refrigerant was brought to the market, some fear arose. Carbon dioxide was considered a better option than R1234yf.
Applications and use
Cars A/C -systems, air conditioning.
R1234yf is highly flammable substance, hence it will not be directly considered as a replacement for R134A– systems. R1234yf has also different features when it comes to burning, which is to be noted in maintenance operations. Thought, the substance turns self flammable in as high as 405C -degrees and it is applied to passenger vehicles only a few hundred grams in amount. In practise, the gas needs ignition source be ignited. (Tukes, ryhmäpäällikkö Markus Kauppinen, Aamulehti, 7.12.2016).
R1234yf will replace the gas R134A.
Replacement refrigerants
A possible replacement for R1234yf will be carbon dioxide (R744).
