R507A refrigerant due for swift replacement
R507A refrigerant is an azeotropic HFC mixture. It has replaced refrigerant R502 in low and medium temperature applications. R507A has a wide range of applications, and it is also suitable for wet evaporation systems. It has good heat transfer properties in the context of condensation.
R507A refrigerant situation
Due to its high GWP value, however, a swift end to the use of R507A has been demanded (AREA, ASERCOM, EFCTC, EPEE), as is the case with R404A. Upon continued use, there is a risk of continued price increases and further decline in the availability of HFC refrigerants.
From the beginning of 2020, new R507A plants will be prohibited, since the construction of stationary refrigeration units that use a refrigerant with a GWP of > 2,500 will no longer be permitted. (EU F-gas Regulation, No 517/2014). Read more of the F-gas regulation from here.
Recycled: use for maintenance purpose is permitted until the end of 2030. Also see R404A.
Applications and use
It has been used in commercial refrigeration equipment, refrigeration and freezing systems, ice track systems and heat pumps.
